Sacred Frankincense… Fit For a King

Sacred Frankincense

Fit For a King

Growing up in the Catholic Church, Frankincense was something that I was familiar with as they would burn the resin of the Frankincense in what was called the high mass, but I never understood the purpose behind the ritual.  As a born again Christian, Frankincense has taken on a new meaning for me as I have studied the Bible, and researched the historical, symbolic and medicinal uses of Frankincense.

Frankincense, from the Hebrew word pronounced lev-ow-nah is the gum resin that is extracted from the bark of the tree. The history of frankincense is based in the Bible and was often referred to as incense; the gum resin can be burned and is often times steamed distilled into an essential oil.  The word Frankincense appears 55 times in the Bible. Though incense is mentioned 113 times and it is often assumed to imply frankincense along with myrrh and other spices.  Below is some reference usage of it throughout The Bible, Old and New Testament.

  • Frankincense was an ingredient in the holy oil used in The Tabernacle in the wilderness, and later, the Temple in Jerusalem that was built by Solomon.
  • Frankincense was used in the grain offering. (Leviticus 2:1, 2, 15, 16, 5:11, 6:15, 24:7)
  • Frankincense was one of the gifts presented to Jesus Christ by the Magi (Matthew 2:11-15)
  • Incense was used to symbolize or accompany prayer and meditation (Psalm 141:2, Luke 1:10, Revelation 5:8, 8:3).
From my study I learned that Frankincense was a very valuable commodity. It was and still is considered the Holy Anointing oil in the Middle East. This “holy anointing oil” was valued more than gold during this time, and only those with great wealth and abundance possessed it. This confirms to me that Jesus was not poor as many Bible scholars teach. (That’s whole other blog in itself.)

Biblically Frankincense is a symbol of holiness and righteousness. The gift of Frankincense to Jesus was symbolic of His willingness to become a sacrifice, in His holiness and righteousness for us, completely giving Himself up, comparable to a burnt offering. In temple days, sweet incense containing Frankincense was placed on the Inner Altar of the Tabernacle and burned morning and evening. It speaks of intercession; as Jesus is our intercessor to God our father. Hebrews 7:25

In the non Biblical text, it was also was traded over 5000 years ago in North Africa and on the Arabian Peninsula and was found in King Tutankhamen’s tomb in Ancient Egypt. King Tut died in 1323 BC!

There are several species of Frankincense that are grown in different parts of the Middle East. Today I want to discuss the medicinal uses of Sacred Frankincense that comes from Boswellia sacra grown and distilled inOman. Sacred Frankincense Essential Oil, Oman Frankincense or Omani hojari is one of the most precious essential oils of the world and is the first Omani Frankincense to be available to those outside of Saudi royals or the privileged of Oman. Young Living is the only company who is has been blessed to build a distillery in Oman, so we can now purchase this sacred holy anointing oil.

There are many different uses and there is scientific studies that are showing many health benefits including reduction of cancer in patients.

Uses and benefits:.It isantiseptic, asthma, cancer, depression, anxiety, laryngitis, infection (colds, coughs, pneumonia, respiratory, staph, strep), immune stimulant, meditation, muscles, menstrual disturbances, nervous conditions, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, spiritual connection, supports the nervous system, stress, ulcers and vertigo.

Plant properties:  Anti-catarrhal, anti-depressant, anti-infectious, anti-tumoral, antiseptic, expectorant, and immune-stimulant, muscle relaxant and sedative.

Frankincense is fit for a King, the King of Kings Jesus Christ.   I believe it was given to Christ for more than spiritual and symbolic meaning. Frankincense is anchored in the Bible, but science has proven the healing power in the human body. I believe Frankincense was given as a gift for health, protection and prayer. There is prophetic meaning hidden for His saints of what was to come in the world’s system. We have sickness and disease surrounding us in immense measure and we are searching and seeking a cure. With Sacred Frankincense and God’s word which was sent to heal us, Psalm 107:20  We have all we need to conquer sickness and disease.

As you anoint yourself with Sacred Frankincense confess in thanksgiving and praise the healing power of Jesus in your life, and all He sacrificed at the cross for all your sickness and disease! Isaiah 53:5

It is awesome to think that this il was given to Jesus.

Penny, we use Isaiah 53:5 every night as one of the four healing scriptures we recite for my daughter’s health and healing (and our boys!). Thanks for this amazingly detailed description of the importance and benefits of Sacred Frankincense. Very awesome that God has put such things on this planet for us to use!
