Let Freedom Ring

     Let Freedom Ring

As we approach Independence Day the topic of freedom is on the hearts of many Americans. So, what does the Bible have to say about freedom? The Word of God teaches us about the freedom that comes from accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior.  The freedom that comes from knowing the truth through the study of God’s Word will truly set our hearts free. We can have freedom in the midst of turmoil, in the midst of trials and temptations. As we celebrate the Fourth of July and the freedom that came for this country, remember the freedom that we received as a gift from God.
As we thank our service men and women who fought for this country, take the time to thank your heavenly father for the freedom that he gave us through his love, his Son. When we share this freedom with others, we will also help give the greatest gift that can be given to anyone.  Below are 10 Freedom Scriptures for the Fourth of July. Meditate on them and receive the freedom that came at the Cross and know that you were set FREE!

1.      2 Corinthians 3:17 -Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.

2.      Romans 8:21that the creation itself also will be set free from its slavery to corruption into the freedom of the glory of the children of God.

3.      John 8:32 -and you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."

4.      Galatians 5:1- it  was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery.

5.      Luke 4:18-19- "The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim release to the captives, And recovery of sight to the blind, To set free those who are downtrodden, To proclaim the favorable year of the Lord."

6.      Galatians 5:13 -For you were called to freedom, brethren; only do not turn your freedom into an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.

7.      1 Peter 2:13-17-Submit yourselves for the Lord's sake to every human institution, whether to a king as the one in authority, or to governors as sent by him for the punishment of evildoers and the praise of those who do right. For such is the will of God that by doing right you may silence the ignorance of foolish men. Act as free men, and do not use your freedom as a covering for evil, but use it as bond slaves of God. Honor all men; love the brotherhood, fear God, honor the king.

8.      Romans 6:18and having been freed from sin, you became slaves of righteousness.

9.      Romans 6:22But now having been freed from sin and enslaved to God, you derive your benefit, resulting in sanctification, and the outcome, eternal life.

10.  Psalm 119:45 -And I will walk at liberty, For I seek Thy precepts.

These scriptures should not be something we celebrate only once a year, but they should be kept buried in our hearts as assurance that no matter what the world does, no matter how the laws change and no matter the doom and gloom that surrounds us, as Christians we were set FREE through Christ Jesus and His peace, wisdom, and joy are ours for the taking.  That is real freedom.  Happy Fourth of July, Happy Freedom in Christ!

Great scriptures! I was actually in a conversation this weekend about freedom and what it REALLY means. If we are married, have kids, have a job, we aren’t free to go party and do whatever we want with whomever we want. We still have responsibilities that others may view as not being “free.” However, the freedom Christ gives us through living our lives for Him far surpasses anything “free” we could possibly come up with ourselves. Great article for July 4th!

What a timely post, Penny. I love all the scriptures you included and how you tied them to the celebration of freedom that we observe on the 4th of July. Great article!

Isn’t it an awesome fact that Jesus purchased our freedom; it is so different from what the world thinks freedom is…He gave us freedom because He loved us and of course still does. He gave us the freedom of choice; we can choose whatever we want, but when we choose according to HIs will and purpose, we are abundantly blessed on top of it!!

Penny, the Word of God will not return void. There is power in His word. Definitely life changing and a source of freedom.
